The Dades Valley is also known as the ´the Country of the Figs´ whereas the much drier Draa valley is known as the ´country of the dates´. Both of these located in Morocco, Africa.

The Dades Valley is like something off the front cover of a science fiction novel. It´s a bizarre, lunar-like landscape with snow on one side and semi-desert on the other. It´s spectacular. Its savage grandeur could only be matched by the Grand Canyon in the USA.

The valley floor is kept green and fertile by the Dades River that flows through it giving life to a huge variety of colourful fruit and nut trees, set against a backdrop of extraordinary red rock formations.

There are literally hundreds of Kasbahs in the area. It looks like a forest of fortresses. They were built by the Berbers to protect themselves from the many invaders to these parts.
