A riad or ryad is a grand luxurious house built around a patio garden. The word "Riad" actually refers to the garden and not the house. The word "Mansion d'hote" is French for guest house. Most Riads, also spelled " Ryads ", are ancient palaces and private residences that once belonged to Sultan princes, aristocrats, and noble families. Normally located in the Medinas of Marrakesh, Essaouira and Fez, these residences are truly stunning.
